Jump Rope Day

Raising money for British Heart Foundation and Heart Beat charities.

Healthy hearts

Cardiac Charlie from the Heartbeat Charity visited our children in Worship to promote exercise and balanced diets for healthy hearts and we will be launching our 'Jump Rope Day' sponsored event today.

Yoga 2014

Mrs Astbury is our Yoga expert in school and this week the whole school has been treated to some fantastic yoga sessions which she has run for us.  We found it lots of fun as it is all done through story telling in a calm, quiet room with lots of focus on building your concentration and strength of muscles!

Yoga is a safe and effective way to increase physical activity, especially strength, flexibility and balance.  Yoga is an ancient form of exercise that focuses on strength, flexibility and breathing to boost body and mind wellbeing. The main parts of yoga are postures (a series of movements designed to increase strength and flexibility) and breathing. The practice originated in India about 5,000 years ago, and has been copied in other countries in a variety of ways.  Look out for a weekly Yoga Club starting in school soon!

A visit from the Dental Nurse

Year 5 had a visit from the Dental Nurse Mrs Kellett during our Health Week to revisit some very important messages about how to keep their teeth and gums healthy by brushing twice a day and avoiding sugary snacks and drinks apart from at meal times.  They also enjoyed meeting Kanga, Mrs Kellet's special Kangaroo who helps to deliver all the important healthy teeth messages in a fun way!

Health Week Year 5

During Health Week Year 5 have been learning all about medicine safety.  We discussed different types of drugs legal and illegal.  We learnt about where it is safe to get prescribed medicines from and where they should be stored safely at home.  Also in this session with our School Nurses we discussed what to do in an emergency if a friend became injured and you were waiting for help.  We had a try and putting our friends in the recovery position and doing some bandaging.

Year 5 jump rope session

We launched Health Week in our morning assembly and all this week the children will be learning all about healthy eating, exercise and making good choices in life. There will be lots going on including Sports Day (fingers crossed for good weather on Wednesday).
