 The Mayor of Medlar-with-Wesham/ our Class Governor came in for a visit to tell us about his role as Mayor and the work he has done. We were really interested to see the chain he wears on special occasions.

Visit from the Mayor

Year 1 have had a visit from our class governor who is the Mayor of Medlar-with-Wesham. Mr Clayton told us about his role as Mayor and showed us the chain he has to wear for official engagements. We found this very interesting and learned lots of interesting facts.

Fire Station Trip

We have learnt some of the jobs that fire fighters do in the present time. We compared these jobs to the job of a fire fighter in 1666. We got to use the fire hose and look inside a fire station.

Nativity

We all tried hard to learn the songs and perform in front of the school and our families. Miss Fryer was very proud of all the class for performing with a big smile on each of their faces.

Fire! Fire! Topic Work

We have created poems linked to fire and The Great Fire of London. We have used junk boxes and different materials to recreate the houses from Pudding Lane.

Christmas Fun

We were excited in the run up to Christmas and all the fun activities that we participated in. We did festive fitness in the hall where we had to do different exercises. Then we enjoyed our Christmas dinner. We even got a visit from Father Christmas.

Music Concert

 As part of out topic this half term, Fire! Fire!, we have been looking at The Great Fire of London. We learnt the song London's Burning to perform in front of the school. We got into two groups and did a round. We first sang the song, then added in claves and then untunned instruments.

Wonka Cakes

We have been busy all week making, decorating and then selling our cakes. We have managed to make £60 profit which will go to Children in Need.

Class Worship

We all did very well performing our class worship to the school and our parents. We have been thinking about anti-bullying week and how we can celebrate being all different but all equal. We enjoyed sharing some of how thoughts with the parents over activities, drinks and biscuits.

Carr Hill Visitors

We were joined by two maths teachers from Carr Hill. They asked what we already knew about shapes and numbers and then we got to play games using the dice. We enjoyed playing the beetle drive game.

Bake Off Preparation

We have been busy making cake mixtures and decorating ready for the bake sale on Thursday. We have been measuring weight, thinking about the costs and planning which shapes we will see.

Remembrance Day

Year 1 and Year 5 joined up to complete Remembrance Day activities. We created poppies, decorated biscuits and made some poems thinking about what we can thank the soldiers for. We have then sold the poppy biscuits to raise money for the Poppy Appeal.
